Green tile, from deep forest to soft sage

Green has quietly become one of the most asked for colours in tile. It reads as calm and natural, it works in both period and modern rooms, and it covers an enormous range, from a near black forest green through jade and emerald to a pale grey sage. This guide walks through the main green families we make, where each one tends to look best, and how the surface finish changes the whole effect. Everything shown here is a real product, with the sizes exactly as listed.

The green families we make

Rather than one flat green, our range splits into a few distinct looks. Knowing which family you are drawn to makes specifying much easier.

  • Deep forest and marble greens. The darkest, most dramatic end. Our 40x250mm handmade kiln-fired brick comes in a Deep Forest Green and a Deep Green Marble finish with natural veining. These suit a feature wall where you want depth and a little drama.
  • Jade and emerald. Richer, jewel like greens. The 40x250mm kiln-fired brick includes a Jade Green Crackle and an Emerald Green Gradient, both with more life and movement than a solid colour.
  • Crackle glaze greens. Our 150x150mm ice crack ceramic tiles come in a Deep Green and a Turquoise Green crackle glaze, where a fine crazed pattern sits over the colour and catches the light.
  • Soft sage. The quietest option. The 40x250mm kiln-fired brick in Light Gray Green is an understated, contemporary sage that behaves almost like a neutral.

How the format changes the look

Colour is only half the story. The shape and size of the tile change how a green reads on the wall.

The 40x250mm slim brick is long and narrow, so laid horizontally it stretches a wall and gives a crafted, linear rhythm. The 150x150mm square is a classic, slightly retro proportion that works beautifully as a grid or a brick bond, and it is the natural choice for a crackle glaze where you want to see the pattern repeat. A dark green in slim brick feels architectural; the same tone in a 150mm square with a crackle glaze feels softer and more traditional.

Where green tile works

  • Kitchens. A deep green crackle backsplash is one of the most reliable ways to add warmth and character behind a run of plain cabinetry. It pairs especially well with timber, brass and off white.
  • Bathrooms. Jade and turquoise greens suit a vanity wall or the wall behind a tub, where the crackle glaze reads as calm rather than loud.
  • Living and dining feature walls. A forest or marble green in slim brick turns a single wall into the focal point of the room without any extra decoration.

Choosing your green

A few simple pointers if you are stuck between shades:

  • Small or dark room: lean towards sage or a mid jade so the room does not close in. Reserve deep forest for a single feature wall rather than wrapping a whole space.
  • Lots of natural light: deep forest, emerald and the marble green hold up well and look richest in daylight.
  • Want texture, not just colour: choose a crackle glaze. The crazing adds depth that a flat tile cannot.
  • Modern and quiet: the Light Gray Green sage in slim brick is the most restrained choice.

What to check before you order

A short list to confirm with your installer, since it decides how the finished wall performs as much as the colour choice:

  • Where the tile is going, and whether that location is wet, splash prone or dry, so the right adhesive and grout are specified.
  • Grout colour. A pale grout keeps a green bright and graphic; a tonal grout lets a deep green read as one solid field.
  • For the crackle glazes, whether the surface will be sealed on site, since a crazed glaze is a decorative effect and your installer will advise on aftercare.

We do not publish slip, water absorption or similar performance figures for these handmade tiles. For anything moisture, wear or safety related, confirm the detail with your installer and your local standards before you specify.

See the colour in your own light

Green is notoriously hard to judge on a screen, and it shifts a lot between daylight and lamp light. We offer sample pieces so you can hold the real colour and glaze against your cabinets, worktop or paint before committing to a full per-square-meter order. When you are ready to price a wall, send the area and we will put a project quote together.
