Most terracotta tile content talks about the colour. Warm, earthy, sun-baked. This article is about something more specific: five mosaic series we have just added, all in the same terracotta clay body, and how the shape of each one changes what a wall actually does.

These are mosaics, not field tile. Each design comes as small clay chips mounted on mesh sheets, in 11 colour variations, at a sample-sheet price so you can check the real colour and texture before ordering bulk. The five shapes below are what the listings describe, with the dimensions taken from each product page. The room scenes below are supplier visualisations of each design; the close-up sheet photos are the actual product.

1. Strip Mosaic: the vertical one

Terracotta clay strip mosaic on a bathroom wall, vertical 50x300mm strips in a warm terracotta tone (ref YH503004)
Strip Mosaic on a bathroom wall. The vertical strips are why the listing suggests it for narrow rooms.

Finger-width clay strips, 50x300mm each, laid edge to edge on a 300x300mm sheet. Because the strips run the full height of the sheet, a finished wall reads as vertical bands rather than a grid. The texture is in the clay body, not a printed surface. The listing notes that each strip is a separate press-moulded piece, so the surface carries small irregularities that a flat extruded tile would smooth away.

Where the listing recommends it: bathroom walls (vertical strips make a narrow room feel taller), kitchen backsplashes where the strip direction can run with or against the worktop line, hallways, cafe and hotel walls that want texture at close range.

Specifications from the listing: Material Terracotta Clay / Ceramic, sheet 300x300mm, chip 50x300mm, thickness 13mm, 11 sheets per m². See the Strip Mosaic listing.

2. Mixed Brick Paver: the reclaimed one

Terracotta clay mixed brick paver mosaic on a shower wall, three brick formats in a warm terracotta tone (ref YH23004)
Mixed Brick Paver on a shower wall. Three brick formats break up the field so the pattern never sits on an obvious grid.

Three brick formats (23x98, 48x98 and 98x98mm) mixed on a single 298x302mm sheet. The listing describes it as reading like reclaimed paving rather than a new tile, with the pattern never repeating on an obvious grid. Because the chips carry a tonal range (some lean orange, some sandy, a few darker), the surface does not sit flat.

At 13mm thick, the listing positions this one for floors as well as walls: cafe and restaurant floors, feature walls behind bars and counters, kitchen backsplashes that want a brickyard texture, bathroom walls in rustic or industrial schemes.

Specifications from the listing: Material Terracotta Clay / Ceramic, sheet 298x302mm, chips 23x98 / 48x98 / 98x98mm, thickness 13mm. See the Mixed Brick Paver listing.

3. Star Mosaic: the geometric one

Terracotta clay star mosaic on a shower wall, interlocking six-point 60x60mm stars in a warm terracotta tone (ref YH75004)
Star Mosaic on a shower wall. The six-point stars meet their neighbours, so the eye reads a continuous lattice.

A six-point star, 60x60mm, press-moulded from terracotta and arranged so the points interlock across a 300x300mm sheet. The listing makes the point that the geometry works on a wall because the star points meet their neighbours, so the eye reads a continuous lattice rather than isolated motifs. The tonal drift between chips keeps the regularity from feeling like a printed graphic.

Where the listing recommends it: bathroom walls and shower surrounds where a geometric repeat adds interest at close range, kitchen backsplashes, entryway feature walls where the lattice catches raking light from a side window, cafe and restaurant walls.

Specifications from the listing: Material Terracotta Clay / Ceramic, sheet 300x300mm, chip 60x60mm (single star), thickness 13mm, 11 sheets per m². See the Star Mosaic listing.

4. Four-Leaf Clover Mosaic: the shaped one

Terracotta clay four-leaf clover mosaic on a shower wall, 65x70mm clovers in a warm terracotta tone (ref YH65004)
Four-Leaf Clover Mosaic on a shower wall. From across the room it reads as texture; up close, as individual petals.

A four-petal clover, 65x70mm, press-moulded rather than cut, so each petal keeps a soft roundness. The listing describes it as the kind of pattern that reads as texture from across a room and as craft up close. Sixteen clovers sit on a 270x280mm sheet.

Where the listing recommends it: bathroom walls where a shaped tile adds detail without a printed motif, kitchen backsplashes, entryway and hallway feature walls, cafe counters and hotel lobbies.

Specifications from the listing: Material Terracotta Clay / Ceramic, sheet 270x280mm, chip 65x70mm (single clover), thickness 13mm, 13 sheets per m². See the Four-Leaf Clover listing.

5. Square Mosaic: the quiet one

Terracotta clay square mosaic on a shower wall, 48x48mm grid in a warm terracotta tone (ref YH48004)
Square Mosaic on a shower wall. The most restrained of the five; the matte finish keeps light soft.

A 48x48mm grid of hand-pressed terracotta chips on a 300x300mm sheet. This is the most restrained of the five. The listing describes the matte surface as keeping light soft, and notes it as a fit for bathrooms and behind a kitchen worktop where glare is unwelcome.

Where the listing recommends it: bathroom walls and shower surrounds, kitchen backsplashes, entryway and hallway feature walls, cafe bars and hotel lobbies where the tonal variation between sheets reads as handmade.

Specifications from the listing: Material Terracotta Clay / Ceramic, sheet 300x300mm, chip 48x48mm, thickness 13mm, 11 sheets per m². See the Square Mosaic listing.

How to choose between the five

The five series share the same material and finish, so the decision is about shape and what you want the wall to do:

  • Strip if you want a wall to read taller or a narrow space to feel less boxed in.
  • Mixed Brick Paver if you want the surface to feel reclaimed rather than new, and you need a floor-rated option (per the listing).
  • Star if you want a geometric pattern that holds together as a continuous lattice.
  • Four-Leaf Clover if you want a shaped tile that reads as texture from a distance and detail up close.
  • Square if you want the warm terracotta tone with the least visual noise.

What to confirm with your installer before ordering

A few things the listings do not specify, which are worth raising with whoever is fitting the tile:

  • Slip and frost ratings are not stated on the listings. If you are considering the floor-rated Mixed Brick Paver for a wet or outdoor area, confirm suitability with your installer or ask us for the relevant documentation.
  • The 13mm thickness means the tile sits proud of standard field tile. Your installer should plan trims and transitions accordingly.
  • Tonal variation is a feature of the clay body, not a defect. If you need a tight colour match across a large area, order a sample sheet first to judge the range.

Samples and bulk orders

Each listing is sold as a sample sheet at $26.80, so you can confirm the real colour and texture before committing to bulk. Sample cost is returned on qualifying bulk orders. Bulk orders ship from our Foshan workshop. For a project quote, send us the area you need to cover and the series you are considering.
