The five trends named in the Azure Magazine preview
Azure Magazine's Coverings 2026 preview identified five trends. Read the Azure Magazine preview. The five headings below are that publication's framing, not GleamRock's ranking, and the descriptions summarise how the category is generally presented.
- Tile as art. Collections presented as large-scale compositions, including hand-painted motifs and digitally printed panels intended to be read as a single image rather than a repeating field.
- Micro-illusions. Small-format and finely printed surfaces that use line, gradient and optical pattern to suggest depth or movement.
- Tailored craft. Surfaces that retain visible variation from the making process. In genuinely handmade production, individual pieces differ in glaze depth and edge profile.
- Haptic surface technologies. Relief, grooved and undulating surfaces where the tactile quality is the main design feature.
- Jade terrain. Jade, emerald and mossy green tones. Azure Magazine described green as "the colour of the moment. From soft sage to deep emerald."
Azure Magazine also wrote that "in the world of AI, there is something pleasing about a surface that values considered design over fleeting trends, embracing time-honoured materials and techniques." That is the publication's assessment of the show, quoted here as such.
How this compares with the official Coverings list
Separately, the show organiser published its own top-ten tile trend list for 2026, which includes Jade Terrain, Micro-Illusions, Tailored Craft and Tile as Art among other categories.
